Percy Williams Homes a long established home builder in Cornwall have just had their new website go live, using the latest technology from Joomla 1.5.7 version. They have incorporated a number of components to streamline their user experience which include eXtplorer for their back-end file management, Raf Cloud for their tagging component, sh404SEF providing search engine friendly URLs and Xmap for their site map. The template is based on the RedEvo Aphelion which has been graphically modified as well as the using template overrides to force the content heading to become the H1 tag for the page rather than the website name thus creating a better search engine friendly site.

Future development for this site that are planned are to add a blog and an image gallery using Expose Gallery.

Percy Williams have been building quality homes in Cornwall since 1921 and have been continually pushing the boundaries of green building technologies. This has resulted in them being able to provide eco friendly buildings which can be run at a fraction of the cost of conventional buildings. They are excited about gaining a wider audience for their state of art buildings with use of the latest technology for Joomla. Anna Barrington from Channel Computing, developer of the site says “We have enjoyed working with a company who is so aware of problems in todays environment and are doing something about it, and are confident that their new site will help them achieve the planned goals for their business”.

Plumbers Taps!

"Plumbers taps" they say kindly, or "builders house" trying to make it alright, as yet again I apologise for the look of the ancient and embarrassing web site that has graced our domain for the last couple of years. Each time I looked at the old web site I shivered to think that people would look at it and judge us by it - oh if only they would click on to your portfolio and see some of the nice sites that we have completed recently!

However we always remember that clients work comes first, and upgrading our own site was....just a vanity really. (Our clients also remember that their work comes first, so a week or two to finish our new site have been out of the question!)

Well I'm shivering no more, and to our immense relief and with a final push from Josh, we finally went live with the longest gestated web site in Cornwall.

I have to say that for now the layout is a fairly standard look, and there is plenty more work to do to get our new site looking as we'd like. However at least we are now on the latest Joomla 1.5.6 Content managed web system (That's the world's most popular open source CMS to you and me), and with a site that while still not very customised, at least doesn't make the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Please read and enjoy our new site, and do feel free to look through our web development client portfolio to the older and more recent work we have undertaken for clients.

A lot of our work you also can't see - software development projects that don't create web sites - some exciting announcements coming up there soon - or the web marketing courses where we have enjoyed revealing to hungry Cornish businessmen the secrets of building traffic, reputation, and sales on the web. But at least we can now showcase ourselves with a modern, standards compliant, reasonably accessible, and at least professional looking web site.

  • To those clients who have come to us despite the appearance of our old web site - thank you. You clearly see past the superficial.
  • To any that didn't - well - it was quite poor wasn't it!

OK enough, please feel free to look if you have a minute, on:
